. She was not only an important figure in modern Belgian architecture, but also a woman whose life connected the histories and cultures of China and Europe.

Simone Guillissen-Hoa 于1916年出生于北京,父亲是中国工程师,母亲是波兰裔作家。她在少年时期前往欧洲求学,先后在巴黎、英国和比利时学习,最终在布鲁塞尔完成建筑学学业,并于1938年毕业。
Simone Guillissen-Hoa was born in Beijing in 1916 to a Chinese engineer father and a Polish-born writer mother. As a teenager, she moved to Europe for her studies, spending time in Paris, the UK and Belgium before completing her architectural education in Brussels, where she graduated in 1938.
在那个女性进入建筑行业仍十分困难的年代,她成为比利时最早获得建筑学学位的女性之一,并很快以独立建筑师的身份开展职业生涯。
At a time when it was still difficult for women to enter the architectural profession, she became one of the first women in Belgium to obtain a degree in architecture and soon began her career as an independent architect.

During the Second World War, Simone Guillissen-Hoa and her husband took part in the European Resistance. The war left a profound mark on her life: she was arrested by the Nazis and imprisoned in a concentration camp, where she endured extremely harsh conditions. After the war, she rebuilt her life and resumed her architectural career while remaining active in social and cultural life.

This experience reflected not only her courage, but also the resilience and strength women have shown in times of profound historical change.

After the war, Simone Guillissen-Hoa established her own architectural practice in Belgium, becoming one of the first Belgian women architects to run an independent firm.
